Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing the Right System
We know you have questions and concerns about how we can he help you. Please use our list of FAQs on the side or feel free to contact us.
How do I know if I have a Heat Pump or Gas?
The easiest way to determine is you have a gas system is with three simple steps.
(1) Do you receive a gas bill?
(2) Is there a gas line with a shut off valve connected to your existing furnace in the attic or closet or attached to the package unit on the roof?
(3) Is there a round metal vent stack for exhaust from the unit through your roof?
A gas system will only run the indoor section of the unit in the wintertime. The outdoor section will not run in the winter if it is a gas system.
If you do not have any of the three you have what is called a heat pump system. A heat pump system is an electric system, and the outdoor unit will run in the summertime and the wintertime.
How do I know if I have a Package Unit or Split System?
This is a very common question.
A split system is just how it sounds. Your heating and cooling unit is split into two sections. You could have an attic split, closet split or garage split.
Attic Split (Horizontal): Portion of unit in attic the other portion on ground outside.
Garage/Closet Split (Vertical): Portion of unit in either indoor or outdoor closet the other portion on the ground outside or sometimes even on the roof is common in condo applications.
A Package Unit is the entire unit all in one commonly on the roof but can also be located on the ground.
What is a SEER2 rating and how should I choose what’s best for me?
SEER2 stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2. This is the most updated, mandatory standard for the United States put in place by the Department of Energy.
The higher the SEER2 rating the less energy the unit consumes to operate.
Many older systems have a rating below 10 and some as low as 6 SEER. Newer efficient units can be rated over 20 SEER2.
Why does a Variable Speed unit not have .5 tons?
Variable-speed units run differently. They can adjust automatically how much cooling is produced, thus extra half sizes aren't needed.
Most variable speed units can run anywhere from 25%-100% depending on demand.
Example: A 3 ton unit can slow down and cool like a much smaller unit when the demand is low, or run at full capacity on very hot days.
If you have a 2.5 ton unit, a 3 ton variable speed unit can ramp down to a 2.5 ton.
The ductwork in the home would need to be able to accommodate the CFM (maximum air volume) of a 3 ton unit to prevent noise or performance issues.
This can be verified by our professionals at the site walk using a CFM chart.
Is a thermostat included?
Variable Speed Trane systems will require a Trane Link 360 thermostat in order to operate and function at full capacity. Those specific Trane systems do come with the correct Link 360 thermostat and will clearly be labelled in the buying process.
Do you offer additional items or accessories with installation?
We are only offering full heating and cooling replacements at this time.
Your installing contractor does offer additional accessories such as various thermostat options, indoor air quality options including UV light filtration and other filtration and ductwork options.
If you would like to discuss any other options available to pair with your installation feel free to discuss with the installing contractor at the time of your site walk.
Purchase Process
Why should I buy online instead of the traditional salesman way?
We all know the saying, “Time is Money”.
When it comes to buying a new heating and cooling system it’s no different.
When you call your typical HVAC company they schedule an appointment with a sales consultant, the appointment could be 1 hour or 3 hours depending on the sales approach.
When you break down the cost of that sales consultants’ time, oh and don’t forget the vehicle and vehicle fees it takes to get them to your home. It can become very expensive. In the end, you’re paying for that, just not up front.
With our online purchasing, we cut out the middleman.
We have special bulk pricing with each manufacture and minimal overhead expenses, passing all the savings down to our clients.
What forms of payment are accepted?
All Major Credit Cards and Debit Cards.
We also offer financing for qualified individuals.
What happens after purchasing?
After purchasing your product(s) the order will be sent to our office. The office will contact you within 24 – 48 hours to schedule an onsite site walk to verify all measurements and materials needed. Upon completion of the site walk, we will schedule an installation date with our highly rated 5-star installation company.
What is a site walk?
A site walk is scheduled with the installation contractor to verify all measurements and materials needed to properly install the unit of your choice. There are several things we look for like properly sized ductwork, condition of existing plenums and drain pans. Verify access is large enough. Properly sized and phased electrical. Inspect for code and safety concerns. Discuss any hot rooms or concerns with air quality can also be discussed at that time.
How long will the installation take?
Every installation is different. However, a good baseline would be.
A typical attic (horizontal application) installation is 8-10 hours.
A typical closet or garage (vertical application) installation is 6-8 hours.
A typical package unit (standard rooftop) installation 4-6 hours.
Do I need to be home for the installation?
You do not need to be home for the entire installation. We do need you to be present upon arrival for the installation walkthrough.
The installation contractor will walk through the home with you to review any questions or concerns you may have prior to installation. Once the walk through is completed you may let the team know you will be leaving and provide lock up instructions
